Manifesto

Defensanimal.org is an NGO that defends the interests of every non-human animal.

We endeavour to re-educate society to become conscious that all animals with a nervous system (humans, dogs, pigs, tuna, hens, mice, etc.) have the capacity to feel (pain, pleasure, fear and so on) and thus we all have interests that should be respected.

Defensanimal.org’s aim is to eradicate speciesism (the discrimination against anyone on the basis of their species), for it is as unfair as sexism or racism are, although the victims are animals of other species different to mankind.

Fortunately, more and more people are beginning to understand that it is unfair to kill a dog in a kennel, but what they do not see is that it is not fair to kill a pig in a slaughterhouse either, or a tuna fish in a fishing ship, or a mouse in a laboratory.

From Defensanimal.org we promote veganism, (the non-use of non-human animals); this means food that is 100% vegetarian (striving not to consume animal products of any kind), the use of clothes and accessories without leather, fur, wool or silk, the use of products not tested or experimented on non-human animals, non-attendance to prisons for non-human animals known as zoos or aquaria, non-attendance to or participation on shows or activities where non-human animals are enslaved (activities using horses, circuses that use non-human animals, popular celebrations that promote entertainment at the expense of other animals), and so on.

Defensanimal.org demands the abolition of all speciesist attitudes or activities, and thus it calls for regulations and improvements to the conditions in which non-human animals are exploited and used, and urges for them to be murdered in a less painful manner in slaughterhouses, fishing ships, fish farms, laboratories, fur farms and so on.

It is totally unfair that 3,000 individuals per second are murdered, even though we are omnivorous (meaning we can eat ingredients of animal origin but we do not need them, although most people believe we do). We can be 100% vegetarian, in such a way that we are healthy without hurting anyone.

Defensanimal.org carries out activities such as conferences, videoforums, vegan cooking workshops (100% vegetarian), gatherings, participation in media, the monthly radio programme 'El Rincón Vegano' (The Vegan Corner) etc, and of course, its website www.defensanimal.org is a window of information aiming at the cease of all speciesism by giving detailed information on why and how to do it.

All members, activists and collaborators of Defensanimal.org were speciesist at some point in our lives, and we are a good example of how anyone can cease to exploit and become a non-speciesist.
